Crafting Authentic Homemade Marinara Sauce

This homemade marinara sauce bursts with rich, herbaceous flavors and a velvety texture, making it an ideal addition to any pasta night or as a dipping sauce for fresh, crusty bread.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 ounces canned whole tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Fresh basil leaves to taste

Method
 

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onions and sauté until translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Add the canned tomatoes, crushing them gently into the pot.
  5. Stir in the salt, black pepper, sugar, oregano, and red pepper flakes.
  6. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cover.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary, then stir in fresh basil before serving.
