Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks.
Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and oregano. Simmer for 10 minutes.
While the filling simmers, slice the bread in half lengthwise and spread softened butter on the cut sides.
If using, sprinkle shredded cheese on the buttered side of the bread.
Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture generously over the cheese or directly onto the buttered bread.
Place the assembled garlic bread on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes until the bread is crispy and cheese is melted.
Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing into portions.
Serve warm, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
